Dear friends and colleagues,
Over the last eighteen months, I have had the great honor–and pleasure–of serving as Executive Director of Libraries Without Borders US. It has been a time of change and opportunity, pursuing new strategic directions, and drawing on our strengths and history to guide the future of the organization.
I’m enormously excited about the future of Libraries Without Borders US. Our partnership with the Connecticut State Library has inaugurated a new era. We are already working to revolutionize the way that libraries across the state reach historically underserved communities. Our COO, Nina Safane, has been leading this partnership from the beginning–and doing much more.
Today, I write with bittersweet news: I will be stepping down as Executive Director of Libraries Without Borders US.
Nina will be stepping in, and our organization–and the communities we work in–are so lucky to have her.
You will get to know her well. But let me share a bit about why I’m so excited that she is taking the helm of the organization.
A nationally acclaimed non-profit and social entrepreneurship leader, Nina also happens to be a former Division 1, All-American rugby player!
Nina has earned a national reputation for non-profit leadership and social entrepreneurship, founding and scaling multiple ventures that have enriched lives and built equity in communities across the country. She is the rare entrepreneur who can act on the cutting edge while honoring the values and history that shape community identity. Among other accomplishments, she designed, launched, and scaled Girls Athletic Leadership Schools (GALS), a first of its kind public school for girls in Denver, rooted in a whole child health and wellness curriculum.
Recently, she co-founded and scaled COVIDCheck Colorado, a COVID-19 response organization that provided testing and vaccines to communities coast to coast, with a staff of hundreds that administered over 2 million tests and 300,000 vaccine doses. Her experience cultivating powerful cross-sector partnership has helped her bring together private actors, public agencies, and non-profit allies to get big things done. She worked as a coach for rising school leaders within the GALS network and through Columbia University’s Summer Principal Academy. Nina holds a B.A. in Education Studies from Brown University and an M.A. in Education from Columbia University.
I can’t wait to see the powerful results of her leadership. I hope you will join me in welcoming her as the new Executive Director of Libraries Without Borders US.
Sincerely,
Aaron Greenberg
